Dr. Nick Fuhrman is known affectionately by his students and TV viewers as “Ranger Nick.” A nationally known expert in teaching methods, he is famous for using live animals in his classroom and keynote addresses. Dr. Fuhrman’s professional background is in environmental education. He worked as an environmental interpreter and naturalist for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for seven years using injured, non-releasable birds of prey and reptiles as teaching tools in presentations throughout the mid-Atlantic. He is currently a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Georgia. Dr. Fuhrman’s research interests are in nonformal teaching methods, program evaluation and the use of live animals as teaching tools.
