High Schools Use AI Less Than Higher Education

Global learning platform Quizlet released its second annual State of AI in Education report indicating 82% of higher education students have used AI technologies, compared to 58% of high school students, according to Education Slice.

College students are more likely to have access to a code of conduct regarding AI use, according to the report. Also, high school teachers are more frequently approached by students with permission-based AI questions and college teachers receive more questions about proper use cases.

Despite the AI use gap, both high school teachers and higher education professors feel positive or neutral about the impact of AI on learning.

Still, teachers’ optimism about AI’s potential has decreased compared to the previous year. Only seven states have issued guidance on AI usage in education — the lack of oversight is a top concern for teachers. Clear guidelines and a reliable framework for AI in education is needed, states the report.
