Carter County Schools in Kentucky is receiving 23 electric school buses from Blue Bird as part of a pilot program, according to an Education Slice report.
The buses, funded by a $9-million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will help the district move to a clean means of student transportation.
The new Blue Bird Vision buses have a larger battery capacity and can travel up to 130 miles on a single charge. They also have increased seating capacity. After the delivery, the district will have a fleet of nearly 75 vehicles.
Superintendent Dr. Paul Green expressed excitement about deploying electric buses. Clean student transportation is a top priority, he said. The grant was part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides funding for clean school bus transportation nationwide.
