In The One Who’s Talking, Dr. Tracey Severns examines the importance of classroom discussion. After gathering decades of experience as an educator, administrator, superintendent, and now educational consultant and leader, Dr. Severens explains how the types of discourse that only occur in schools allows educators to address content, evaluate performance and identify disconnects. By being able to effectively lead classroom discussion and teach students to initiate and sustain thoughtful dialogue, educators provide students with the tools they need to succeed in the future.

About the Instructor

Dr. Tracey Severns is a nationally recognized educational strategist and the founder of Teach4Results. She has served as a classroom aide, special ed teacher, vice principal, principal, district director of student performance and statewide chief academic officer. She currently serves as Leadership and Learning Strategist with Rutgers University Center for Effective School Practices. Dr. Severns has provided professional development on the Common Core, PARCC, instructional leadership, data analysis, special education and school improvement on the state and national levels. As a principal she won three fellowship grants from the Dodge Foundation, and was selected as one of eight principals to represent the United States for an educational exchange program with Brazil. She has earned the Middle Level Leadership Award and was selected as Visionary Principal of the Year in her home state of New Jersey. Dr. Severns has also been named a National Distinguished Principal. The middle school that she led was selected as a National School of Change, one of only six in the United States.
