Social/Emotional Issues

Researchers are beginning to pay closer attention to the effects of social and emotional learning on behavior and academic achievement and the research is showing that social and emotional learning is crucial to mitigating the social problems that exist in schools and detract from learning.

A report from the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) states “Social and emotional learning involves that process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”
